If I’m not planning a trip, you can be sure that I’m reminiscing about a past adventure. Today I’m thinking of the dreamy fall weekend we spent running around Chicago. Last October Tim and I attended the Storyline conference at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois. Storyline uses plot and other elements of story to help you craft a life plan. We heard inspiring messages from speakers like Donald Miller, Shauna Niequist, and Bob Goff. It was the perfect way for Tim and I to start dreaming and scheming for our future as a newly married couple. Since we were just a short train ride away we decided to spend a brief 24 hours in Chicago on the tail end of our trip.
I love unique and interesting boutique hotels and hostels so I knew I wanted to spend our night at Chicago’s Freehand. We checked in to our perfectly designed, budget friendly room before heading out for some classic deep dish pizza at Lou Malnati’s. We snagged tickets to a comedy show at the iconic Second City.
Before heading out for a few hours of exploring, we grabbed coffee and breakfast at Cafe Integral in the lobby of the Freehand. We wandered down past the river and to Millennium Park to gawk at the bean. On our way back we stopped and watched a street puppeteer before making our way to the airport to head home. It was the perfect fall weekend in Chicago.
